Consolidated Communications Supports Interactive Learning with $5,000 Grant for Canaan Schools

Canaan Schools awarded $5,000 grant for technology upgrades in classrooms

Canaan Schools recently received a $5,000 grant from Consolidated Communications’ Consolidated Connects Educational Grant Program to enhance classroom technology. The grant was celebrated during a check presentation at a school assembly on May 10. With this funding, the school plans to upgrade technology in classrooms to allow for more interactive learning experiences for students. These upgrades will focus on programs and lesson materials that incorporate exercise, movement, and balancing skills to engage students.

The Consolidated Connects Educational Grant Program supports K-12 schools within the company’s service area that offer innovative, technology-focused learning programs. Since its inception in 2021, the program has granted over $160,000 to 52 schools, benefiting over 14,500 students. Canaan Schools is one of these schools and is part of the Essex North Supervisory Union.

Superintendent Jennifer Lawcewicz expressed gratitude for the grant, stating that research shows young children learn best when participating in activities that involve multiple modalities like music, movement, and visuals. The school is excited to expand its use of technology to support learning in the preschool classroom. Canaan Schools serves students from pre-K through 12th grade in Canaan and nearby communities. The school provides a range of academic and technical career programs, early college and dual enrollment opportunities, as well as co-curricular activities such as athletics and visual and performing arts.

Consolidated Communications’ director of government affairs, Scott Brooks, highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives like this grant. He emphasized that investing in education initiatives strengthens communities, and Consolidated is proud to support the Canaan community and its youth through this grant.
