Community Members Needed: The Urgent Need for Volunteer Coaches in Youth Sports Programs Across the Area

Youth sports organizations are in need of coaches as participation rates continue to increase

As the new season of sports gets underway, there is a pressing need for volunteer coaches in youth leagues across the area. Kim Kendall, who spends two hours a day training her son at Hester Community Center in Boynton Beach, knows firsthand how important it is for children to have coaches who provide structure, support, and motivation.

Todd Johnson, a recreation supervisor in Boynton Beach, agrees that the ongoing need for volunteer coaches is crucial to support the 200 to 300 kids participating in youth sports. With teams preparing for the upcoming season, having extra volunteers on standby can help provide flexibility when needed.

In Palm Beach Gardens, Manolo Calvo, president of the Palm Beach Gardens Youth Athletic Association, highlights the importance of community members getting involved as volunteer coaches. Most recreational sports teams are run by parent volunteers, which allows the organization to operate at a low cost or for free, ensuring that children have access to sports programs at an affordable price.

With thousands of kids involved in various sports programs across the area, there is no denying that volunteer coaches are essential to their success. Parents, guardians and community members are encouraged to consider volunteering as coaches or assistant coaches to make a lasting impact on children’s lives and contribute to the thriving of youth sports programs in the community.
