Community Health Center for Springfield: How Baystate Health and MassMutual Are Improving Access to Healthcare in the City

MassMutual plans to donate land for the construction of a new Baystate community health center

In a major step towards addressing the healthcare needs of the Springfield community and promoting health equity, Baystate Health and MassMutual have partnered to construct a comprehensive community health center in the city. The project will be owned and operated by Baystate Health, with MassMutual donating approximately $5 million in land and providing financing and other support over five years through its foundation.

The new health center is expected to serve over 145,000 people per year, offering state-of-the-art care that is easily accessible and efficient. According to MassMutual President and CEO Roger Crandall, “We’re going to be able to help well over, I think, 145,000 people a year in this new center, giving them easy to get in, easy to get out care.”

Baystate Health President and CEO Dr. Mark Keroack expressed his excitement about the project, stating that their current facilities are crowded, aging, and difficult to maintain. He explained that the vision for a new health and wellness center began to take shape as they consolidated practices into larger centers.

Construction of the community health center is anticipated to commence in 2025, with completion expected in 2027. This initiative marks a significant step forward in addressing the healthcare needs of the Springfield community and promoting health equity. All rights reserved.
