Shelby County Health Department to hold ‘Community Care Fair’ in South Memphis

A Community Care Fair is set to take place on Saturday in South Memphis, hosted by the Shelby County Health Department in partnership with The Works, Inc., and St. Andrew AME Church. This resource fair will be held at Renaissance Pocket Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature a variety of services and resources for attendees to enjoy.

The event will offer free food, music, immunizations, supplies, and information on health department programs. Some of the resources available include assistance from CHANT (Community Health Access and Navigation in Tennessee), the CSFP Senior supplementary nutrition program for qualified seniors, free child safety seats (while supplies last), free HIV testing, and enrollment for medications that prevent HIV infections.

In addition to these services, there will be free back-to-school vaccinations, measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccinations available as well as COVID-19 vaccines for attendees to receive. The fair will also provide residents with information on free and low-cost dental services through the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program as well as opioid overdose prevention kits and tobacco prevention education.

Dr. Michelle Taylor, the director of the Shelby County Health Department emphasized the importance of bringing these services directly to the community.”We encourage residents of the 38106 zip code to attend this event,” she said “and take advantage of the various services offered.” The health department hopes that events like this Community Care Fair will help raise awareness about the resources available to our community members.”
