College World Series Ejects Fans for Insensitive Remarks about Tragic Losses of UF Baseball Batboys

A&M enthusiasts removed from College World Series after taunting UF coach

On Monday, May 17, 2021, the community gathered to honor the memory of Rex and Brody Reinhart, two young boys who tragically lost their lives. The Gainesville Sun reported on the memorial service and highlighted the impact of their deaths on the local community.

Over the weekend, social media buzzed with news of two fans being ejected from the College World Series for heckling University of Florida baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan. The fans, wearing Texas A&M shirts, reportedly made insensitive remarks about the Reinhart brothers’ deaths, which occurred in May 2021. Brody was a batboy for the Florida team, adding another layer of emotion to the situation.

The Omaha Police Officers Association (OPOA) condemned the fans’ behavior and announced their ejection from the stadium. The association stated that such behavior was unacceptable and unwelcome, calling for a ban on the fans from future College World Series events.

The tragic deaths of Rex and Brody shocked the community, as their father, Paul Otto Reinhart, had taken their lives before ending his own. The boys’ mother, Minde O’Sullivan, is now married to University of Florida baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan, creating a complex and heart-wrenching connection between the families involved.

Texas A&M’s head coach, Jim Schlossnagle, publicly apologized for the fans’ actions during a post-game press conference. He emphasized that the behavior of the fans did not reflect the true spirit of Texas A&M and urged them not to return to future games.
