Collaborative Reporting: Tackling Mental Health Crisis on College Campuses with Journalism’s Help

College journalists discuss the mental health crisis on campus

Journalists, parents, and pundits all have a range of opinions on how to tackle the mental health crisis that exists on college campuses. This issue is a major concern for many people, including those working within the media industry. Recently, Leoneda Inge spoke with three journalists who were involved in creating and editing stories for The Mental Health Collaborative. This project was launched by nine college newsrooms in North Carolina and aimed to report on and share coverage of mental health issues affecting students at their universities. The guests featured in the discussion were Emmy Martin, Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Tar Heel and lead editor of The Mental Health Collaborative, Rosegalie Cineus, Editor-in-Chief of The A&T Register at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and Emily Vespa, Managing Editor at Technician at NC State University. Each journalist brought their unique perspective and experiences to the conversation, highlighting the importance of discussing mental health issues on college campuses.
