Collaborative Partnerships: Riverview Health and Ivy Tech Tackle Healthcare Workforce Shortage

Riverview Health is enhancing the skills of their employees to meet the demand for critical healthcare positions

Riverview Health and Ivy Tech have teamed up to address the shortage of healthcare workers by equipping hospital staff with new skills. One success story is that of Katy Learned, a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant at Riverview Health. Katy started her career as a receptionist and knew she wanted to be involved in patient care. The pandemic only strengthened her passion for the field. When the opportunity arose to work and earn her medical assistance license, she took it, balancing work and school to achieve her goal.

With the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting a 14 percent growth in employment of medical assistants by 2032, Riverview and Ivy Tech recognized the need for more workers in this field. They developed a program to meet this critical need, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in addressing job shortages both locally and nationwide. The collaboration between Ivy Tech and Riverview has been instrumental in supporting students and upskilling the workforce.

Looking ahead, Riverview Health plans to expand the program in partnership with Ivy Tech to continue meeting the demand for skilled healthcare workers. The hospital highlights the value of private employers investing in their workforce’s education and development to fill critical job openings. Dave Hyatt, CEO of Riverview Health, praises Ivy Tech as an essential partner in crafting solutions tailored to the organization’s needs. Private employers working with educational institutions like Ivy Tech are vital in creating opportunities for employees to grow and excel in their careers.
