During Saturday afternoon’s race at the 1.5-mile track, Cole Custer and Austin Hill were involved in a crash. Ross Chastain was the fifth Chevrolet driver to make it to the second round of qualifying, while Michael McDowell was the only Ford driver to do so, securing the ninth spot on the grid. The previous two winners of the Coca-Cola 600, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney, did not make it to the final round of qualifying, with Hamlin starting in 11th and Blaney in 16th.
Ty Gibbs claimed the pole position for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600, marking his second pole of the weekend after winning the pole for Saturday’s Xfinity Series race as well. He was one of four Toyota drivers to advance to the final round of qualifying, with Christopher Bell, Martin Truex Jr., and Tyler Reddick also making it to the final round. Gibbs will be joined on the front row by William Byron, who was the top Chevrolet driver in qualifying and all four Hendrick Motorsports cars qualified in the top 10.
