Eto’o expressed his support for Brys, recognizing the challenges that come with coaching a national team.
Brys was appointed by Cameroon’s sport ministry in April, which surprised Fecafoot, the country’s football federation, and President Eto’o. Eto’o had previously criticized the ministry’s appointment of Brys as “illegal.” Fecafoot stated that they were not consulted in the coach selection process and were not involved in decision-making.
Despite initial controversy surrounding his appointment, Brys will lead Cameroon in their upcoming important matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The team is set to face Cape Verde on June 8 and Angola three days later under Brys’ leadership. Eto’o assured that Brys would have all necessary support to carry out his duties effectively.
