Climate Activist and Ice Climber Molly Kawahata Offers Insights on Tackling Climate Change with Fear-Less Messaging at Park City Library

The Park City Community Foundation has invited former White House climate advisor Molly Kawahata to speak at the Park City Library about actionable strategies for addressing climate change. Kawahata, an avid ice climber, has been the subject of a recent documentary called “The Scale of Hope,” which was produced by Patagonia. In her talk, Kawahata will emphasize the importance of fostering hope rather than fear in order to make systemic change and engage more people in addressing climate change.

Kawahata believes that using research-backed communication strategies can help make the climate movement more accessible, welcoming, just and effective. She will discuss how shifting the conversation from fear, guilt and shame to hope can be crucial in engaging more people in addressing climate change. According to Kawahata, framing climate change in terms of public health rather than environmental destruction can help garner more support from the public regardless of political affiliation.

The event is taking place on Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and tickets are $10 and can be purchased online.
