Clash of the Newcomers: Oklahoma Sooners and Duke Blue Devils Battle for Women’s College World Series Crown

Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowgirls Ready for Another Women’s College World Series Appearance in Softball

The Oklahoma Sooners and Cowgirls are set to face off at Devin Park for the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City. This year, OU Softball will take on the Duke Blue Devils, a program that has only been around for seven seasons. Despite their relative newcomer status, the Sooners have dominated the National Championship in the past three seasons.

While Duke claims they are just trying to establish themselves, OU Softball head coach Patty Gasso is focused on leading her team to victory as a unit. According to Gasso, they are not out to prove anything to anyone, but rather earn their place on top through hard work and dedication. On the other hand, Duke Softball head coach Marissa Young has made it clear that she wants her team to compete for championships from day one and is determined to win and make a statement in the College World Series.

The upcoming matchup between OU and Duke is not their first meeting this season. In fact, OU defeated Duke 3-0 on February 8th. However, both teams have familiar opponents on their sides of the bracket; OSU softball will take on Florida Gators, who they beat 3-0 back in February 19th at Gainesville. Cowgirl Softball Head Coach Kenny Gajewski has a special connection with the Gators as he was an assistant coach under Tim Walton during their back-to-back championship runs from 2013 to 2015.

Despite any personal connections or rivalries between teams, both OU and Duke are prepared for this high stakes matchup at Devin Park in Oklahoma City.
