Clariant and Lummus Technology to Provide CATOFIN Catalyst and Process Technology for Huizhou Boeko Materials Co. Ltd.’s New Isobutane Dehydrogenation Plant

Contract for catalyst technology awarded to Clariant and Lummus

Huizhou Boeko Materials Co. Ltd. has selected Clariant and Lummus Technology to provide their CATOFIN catalyst and process technology for the dehydrogenation of isobutane at a new plant in Huizhou City, China. The project includes the technology license and basic engineering, with the aim of producing 550,000 million tpy of net isobutylene as feedstock for the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE).

The CATOFIN process is highly efficient, utilizing fixed-bed reactors operating at optimal pressure and temperature for maximum catalytic dehydrogenation of isobutane. This results in high yields of isobutylene at low investment and operating costs. Jens Cuntze, Business President Catalysts and APAC at Clariant, expressed excitement about delivering their CATOFIN catalyst to this first Huizhou Boeko plant and anticipates a successful partnership. The collaboration will bring reliability, productivity, and increased profitability to the plant.

Clariant’s CATOFIN technology offers a competitive edge in the market by providing an efficient solution for dehydrogenating isobutane at lower costs than traditional methods. Lummus Technology’s expertise in process technology ensures that the project runs smoothly from start to finish. With this contract, Huizhou Boeko will strengthen its position in the market as a producer of MTBE feedstock.
