Civilians Bearing the Brunt: The Conflict between Israel and Hamas Continues to Claim Lives in Gaza Strip

Hamas deems Biden’s remarks on hostages as hindering negotiations in Gaza

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has caused a high death toll in the Palestinian territory, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. Hamas expressed disappointment at US President Joe Biden’s recent statements regarding the hostages in the Gaza Strip, stating that it was a setback for negotiations for a ceasefire. Biden had suggested that a ceasefire could be achieved if the hostages held by Hamas since October 7 were released. However, more than 250 people were taken captive that day and 128 are still held in Gaza, with 36 believed to have died.

Hamas accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of derailing talks by attacking Rafah, a town in the south of the Gaza Strip. Israel had sent tanks and troops to eastern Rafah despite international warnings, which could lead to chaos and anarchy according to the UN. The ongoing violence has caused a high death toll in the Palestinian territory, with mostly civilians being affected.

The war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7 when Hamas commandos infiltrated from Gaza and carried out an attack on Israel. The conflict has resulted in a significant number of casualties on both sides, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. The situation remains tense as negotiations for a ceasefire continue amidst ongoing hostilities.
