Chips for the Future: Semiconductor Industry Association Emphasizes Critical Program Funding in Senate Commerce Committee Statement

SIA issues statement regarding Senate Commerce Committee legislation supporting funding for CHIPS and Science Programs

On April 30, 2024, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) issued a statement expressing its support for legislation pending before the Senate Commerce Committee. The statement was made by Vice President of Government Affairs David Isaacs and endorsed SIA’s backing for provisions in the bill that would fund critical CHIPS & Science Act programs. Specifically, SIA supports funding for the CHIPS incentives program and research programs authorized by the CHIPS & Science Act, as these programs would drive innovation and promote resiliency in the semiconductor supply chain.

The leadership of Senator Maria Cantwell in proposing these provisions was recognized and commended by SIA, which serves as the voice of the U.S. semiconductor industry. Representing 99% of U.S. semiconductor industry revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S chip firms, SIA is a key driver of America’s economic strength, national security, and global competitiveness in this sector.

Through its coalition, SIA aims to strengthen leadership in semiconductor manufacturing, design, and research by working with Congress, the Administration, and key industry stakeholders worldwide. The association seeks to encourage policies that foster innovation, support businesses and drive international competition in this rapidly evolving industry.
