Chinese Steel Producer Zhongshou Embraces Green Production with New Arvedi Esp Plant from Primetals Technologies

Zhongshou Special Steel Group, a Chinese steel producer, has placed an order for an Arvedi Esp line from Primetals Technologies for its facility in Luanzhou, Hebei province. The project will see collaboration between Primetals Technologies’ Austria, China, and Germany locations to provide all mechanical components, as well as electrical and automation solutions. The plant is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.

The Arvedi Esp technology, which is officially certified for casting and rolling thin sheets with zero carbon emissions, was chosen by Zhongshou due to its energy efficiency in producing high-quality hot rolled endless strip (eHRC). This efficiency is a key factor in why Zhongshou opted for Arvedi Esp over traditional methods.

Zhongshou’s President Zheng Ting Wen expressed the company’s commitment to leading in green steel production both domestically and internationally while remaining competitive in markets aligned with Carbon Border Adjustment rules. By investing in the twelfth ESP plant globally, Zhongshou is taking a significant step towards decarbonizing its production process and aiming for zero CO2 emissions during casting and rolling stages.

The new ESP plant will be among China’s nine similar facilities but will stand out as the most powerful to date. Its design incorporates a long casting machine, high reduction rolling benches, and finishing rolling benches to facilitate the manufacturing of various steel products. Automation solutions like LevCon will be leveraged to achieve high levels of productivity and exceptional product quality across the entire thickness range.

In collaboration with Primetals Technologies, Zhongshou aims to transition to green steel production through its modern ESP plant equipped with cutting-edge electrical and automation systems. The facility will provide steel products to the commodity market and cater to specialized sectors like automotive thanks to its versatile production capabilities. With a focus on an endless production mode and high reduction capacity, Zhongshou is poised to meet the evolving needs of the steel industry with top-notch quality products.
