In January, Isaiah Buggs joined the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad and later signed a futures contract with the team. However, recent reports indicate that the Chiefs are releasing him due to several legal issues he has faced in recent months.
Earlier this month, Buggs was arrested on charges of second-degree domestic violence and second-degree burglary. His $5,000 bond was revoked, and he remains in jail. Additionally, he turned himself in on charges of second-degree animal cruelty on May 30 but was released after posting bond.
Buggs’ agent, Trey Robinson, released a statement denying the animal cruelty charges and stating that Buggs was not aware of the dogs on the property. Buggs has also been involved in incidents at his own hookah lounge, where he was charged with menacing, assault, and a city code infraction.
The 27-year-old defensive end played college football at the University of Alabama before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also had stints with the Detroit Lions before joining the Chiefs. Despite his release, the Chiefs have had a tumultuous offseason with other players facing legal issues as well. Wide receiver Rashee Rice faces criminal charges related to a car crash while offensive tackles Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick were arrested on marijuana possession charges. Buggs’ release adds to the challenges the Chiefs have faced in the offseason.
