The Chicago Cubs have made several roster moves ahead of Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds. David Bote has been called up from Triple-A Iowa, while Nick Madrigal has been optioned to Iowa and Adbert Alzolay has been placed on the 60-day injured list.
Bote, who signed a five-year contract with the Cubs in 2020, returns to the big leagues after not playing since 2022. In Triple-A this season, Bote has seven home runs, 15 RBI’s, and a .259/.342/.546 slash line. He had four home runs and 12 RBI’s in 41 games with the Cubs during his last stint.
Madrigal has struggled at the plate in 2024, with a .221/.280/.256 slash line. He has gone 4-for-24 in his last 12 games and has a negative-0.5 WAR for the season. Alzolay has been dealing with a right forearm strain since mid-May and has a 1-4 record with a 4.67 ERA in 18 appearances this season. There is no timeline for his return yet, but he will be out at least until mid-July.
The Cubs will have Ben Brown on the mound for Sunday’s game against the Reds, with first pitch scheduled for 1:20 p.m.
