Chevron Lummus Global LLC Takes Major Step in Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production with $400 Million Renewable Fuels Plant in China

Chevron Lummus Global’s ISOTERRA Technology Chosen for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Initiative in China

In a major step towards sustainability, Chevron Lummus Global LLC (CLG) has announced that its ISOTERRA technology will be used in a new sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in China. The company will provide technology licensing, engineering services, and proprietary equipment and catalysts for this innovative facility.

The renewable fuels plant will have a capacity of 400 KTA, processing various lipid feedstocks like plant-derived oils, animal fats, and used cooking oils to maximize SAF production. The facility will also be capable of producing renewable diesel, showcasing operational versatility. The project aims to make the operator a significant SAF producer in the region, aligning with China’s carbon reduction targets by 2030 and its goal of carbon neutrality by 2060.

To address the challenges of renewable feedstocks and optimize SAF production, the ISOTERRA unit will operate using a two-stage process with EnRich® hydrotreating and EnHance™ isomerization catalysts, drawing on CLG’s expertise in hydroprocessing. Chevron Lummus Global, a joint venture between Chevron U.S.A. Inc. and Lummus Technology, specializes in technology for renewable and conventional transportation fuels, premium base oils, and sustainable petrochemicals.
