Chelsea Acquires Renato Veiga and Finalizes Deal for Aaron Anselmino as Part of ‘Project 2030’

Report: Chelsea agrees to sign Portuguese midfielder in £12m deal.

There are reports circulating that Chelsea is close to acquiring Basel midfielder Renato Veiga in a £12m deal. This move is part of the club’s ongoing efforts to sign promising young talent, with previous signings this summer including Estevao Willian and Marc Guiu. Veiga, a 20-year-old defensive midfielder who can also play at center-back or on the left side of defense, has agreed to terms with Chelsea.

In addition to Veiga, Chelsea is also finalizing a deal to bring Boca Juniors center-back Aaron Anselmino to Stamford Bridge. The £14m deal will see Anselmino remain on loan with Boca for the next 12 months, with the option for Chelsea to bring him to the club earlier in January 2025 if necessary. This move is part of Chelsea’s larger youth project dubbed ‘Project 2030’, which also includes the signing of Ecuador midfielder Kendry Paez.

The departure of key figures in Chelsea’s academy, Neil Bath and Jim Fraser, has raised questions about the future of the club’s youth development plan. Despite this uncertainty, Chelsea continues to invest in young talent as they seek to build a strong foundation for the future.
