Champions League Winner and Premier League Title Holder, Kyle Walker: Humility and Self-Doubt Drives Success

I believe that I can make significant improvements

Kyle Walker, a 34-year-old defender with over 80 England caps, a Champions League win, and experience captaining Manchester City to a Premier League title, believes that he still has room for improvement as a player. In his new podcast called “You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker” on BBC Sounds, Walker shared his thoughts on his career.

Walker admitted that he is not a “hyper-confident” player and has always had to fight for everything he has achieved. He recalled being the best player in his team from ages nine to fourteen but as others grew physically faster than him, he had to adapt and work harder to stay competitive. Despite his accomplishments, Walker still doubts himself and believes he can do better and improve significantly. He mentioned that he feels nerves leading up to games but once on the pitch, he focuses on performing and looking to his teammates for support when needed.

Reflecting on his career, Walker mentioned other full-backs like his Manchester City teammate Joao Cancelo, who he regards as one of the best technically. He acknowledged that there are areas in his game where he could have put in more effort but also recognizes that other players may envy his pace and strength.
