Central College recently won the Marjorie Giles All-Sports Championship Trophy, marking the first time since the 2003-04 academic year. The women’s athletics teams narrowly edged past Wartburg College with a total of 57.5 points, while the Dutch men finished third in the Elmer Hertel All-Sports Trophy standings with 50.5 points. Additionally, Central placed second in the Combined All-Sports Trophy standings.
Points were awarded in each sport based on conference titles, with nine points given to the champion and decreasing amounts for lower-placed teams. The women’s teams at Central won conference championships in softball and dance, as well as earning runner-up finishes in golf and cross country. Overall, they secured eight top-four finishes.
Central has a long history of success in all-sports titles, having won the men’s title 14 times and the women’s title 10 times. On the men’s side, the Dutch did not win any conference titles but had strong showings with a runner-up finish in cross country and third-place finishes in football, golf, and basketball. Despite not winning any conference titles this year, they still managed to secure an impressive third place finish overall.
