Centenarian World War II Veteran Embarks on Commemorative Trip to Normandy, Honored by Pulaski Community

World War II veteran Eugene Kraszewski, aged 100, recognized in Pulaski tribute.

Eugene “Jack” Kraszewski, a 100-year-old World War II veteran, was honored by the Pulaski community before embarking on a trip to Normandy to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The parade in Pulaski featured a color guard and Kraszewski riding in an olive-green jeep, with the Red Raider band performing the “Armed Forces Medley” and Kraszewski receiving a 21-gun salute as spectators lined the streets to cheer him on.

As one of 70 World War II veterans traveling on an American Airlines charter flight, Kraszewski played a key role in the liberation of France and served in battles like the Battle of the Bulge. His courageous service in the Army and participation in important wartime events were recognized by former U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher, who paid tribute to him in the House of Representatives upon his discharge from military service in 1946. Kraszewski continued a life of service and dedication to his country by returning home to marry his wife, Marjorie Stender.
