The Boston Celtics have re-signed Luke Kornet to a one-year deal, keeping the “Green Kornet” in Boston for another season. With Kristaps Porzingis sidelined due to injury, Kornet is expected to have a more prominent role next season.
Kornet’s re-signing comes as the Celtics have six free agents on the market. Xavier Tillman, Oshae Brissett, Svi Mykhailiuk, JD Davison, Drew Peterson and Neemias Queta are all either unrestricted or restricted free agents. The Celtics wasted no time in locking in Kornet just as the free agency period began, ensuring continuity and chemistry in their frontcourt for the upcoming season.
The 7-foot-2 center was a key depth piece for the Celtics last season, averaging 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and one block per game. His return will be crucial in providing depth and stability to the Celtics especially with Porzingis out of action. In addition to his contributions on the court, Kornet is also known for his ability to provide energy and spark offensively which will be valuable for the team as they navigate through an uncertain year ahead.
