Celebrating 10 Years of Inclusive Roller Derby in the Copper Country: Join Keweenaw Roller Derby’s Anniversary Festivities!

Keweenaw Club Marks a Decade of Derby Celebrations | News, Sports, Jobs

Keweenaw Roller Derby (KRD) is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and inviting everyone to join in the festivities. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, flat-track roller derby team in the Copper Country, KRD supports individuals over the age of 18 who are dedicated to working hard and having fun, regardless of their shape, size, orientation, or level of athleticism.

If you want to witness some exciting roller derby action, KRD has home bouts scheduled at the Calumet Colosseum on May 25, June 22, July 13, and August 31. Tickets are only $5 at the door, and kids 10 years old and under can attend for free. The doors open at 5 p.m. on the day of the bout with the first whistle blowing at 6 p.m. The first bout is the annual Solar System Smackdown with a theme of “The Great Debate”, so attendees are encouraged to dress up to show their support.

For those interested in joining KRD as a skater, they have a new skater program starting in July. An information session will be held on June 20 at 7 p.m., where you will have an opportunity to try on gear and learn all about roller derby rules so that you feel comfortable and welcome on the team regardless of your skill level. You can reach out to the board at board@keweenawrollerderby.com if you have any questions about this program or volunteering opportunities available for anyone interested in supporting KRD as they continue to roll into the future.

KRD is always looking for volunteers to help with bouts and there are various roles available for volunteers; from non-skating officials to referees and skaters on track – everyone is welcome! If you’re interested in volunteering please email board@keweenawrollerderby
