Carlo Acutis: From London to Sainthood – The Miraculous Journey of the Teenage Catholic Influencer

The First Millennial Canonized by the Vatican: The Rise of God’s Influencer

Carlo Acutis, an Italian teenager born in London, gained recognition for his ability to spread the teachings of the Catholic Church through social media. He became known as “the influencer of God” for his online presence and dedication to his faith. His path to sainthood began when he passed away at the age of 15 in 2006.

In 2020, Carlo Acutis was beatified following the healing of a Brazilian child who had a congenital disease. This first miracle earned him the title of “the patron of the web.” His website documenting reported Eucharistic miracles also contributed to his growing reputation as a religious leader.

More recently, Pope Francis attributed a second miracle to Carlo Acutis: the healing of Valeria Valverde, a Costa Rican university student who suffered a brain hemorrhage after a bicycle accident in Florence, Italy. Her miraculous recovery was attributed to Carlo Acutis’ intercession.

Miracles like those attributed to Carlo Acutis undergo rigorous evaluation before someone can be considered for sainthood. The most recent person to be canonized was María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, an 18th-century nun from Argentina. With this second miracle recognized by the Catholic Church, it is now possible that Carlo Acutis will eventually be canonized as a saint himself.
