Capturing the Thrills: The Unforgettable Moments in Sports Photography this Week.

AP sports week captured in photos

The world of sports is full of drama, and AP photographers have a unique talent for capturing it all. Last week was no exception, with finals in men’s and women’s soccer, Formula 1 racing in Monaco, the conclusion of the Giro d’Italia cycling race in Rome, and the ice hockey world championship in Prague, among other events.

One particularly memorable moment was captured by Thibault Camus during the French Open when he skillfully photographed Slovakian tennis player Rebecca Sramkova’s match against Amanda Anisimova of the U.S. In a stunning photo, spectators’ shadows created a semi-vignette that was perfectly balanced by the white lines of the court.

Another unforgettable moment was Brady Tkachuk’s experience when he was punched in the face by Michal Kempny during their ice hockey world championship quarterfinal. On a lighter note, Barcelona midfielder Ingrid Syrstad Engen claimed victory over Lyon in the Women’s Champions League final in Bilbao with sheer joy on her face. Steven Senne also captured Boston Celtics forward Oshae Brissett celebrating after a dunk in the NBA Eastern Conference finals.

The busy week continued with Manchester United’s surprise victory over city rival Manchester City in the FA Cup final and Atalanta ending Bayer Leverkusen’s 51-game unbeaten run in the Europa League. Josef Newgarden won the prestigious Indianapolis 500 auto race as well. In addition to these events, AP photographers documented several other exciting moments around the world including Paris Saint-Germain celebrating after winning French Cup final and Asian women’s volleyball Challenge Cup held in Manila, Philippines
