Canada Secures Third Consecutive Victory in Men’s Curling World Championship Against Scotland

Canada’s skip Brad Gushue has just improved his record to 3-0 after defeating defending champion Bruce Mouat of Scotland 8-4 at the world men’s curling championship in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. This win puts Canada ahead of Scotland in potential tiebreakers between the two teams later in the tournament.

Gushue, hailing from St. John’s, took an early lead of 4-1 over Mouat through five ends. However, the Scottish team fought back to make it a closer game at 6-4 by the eighth end. A few missed shots from Canadian vice-skip Mark Nichols and Gushue allowed Mouat to score two points, but Gushue was relieved that it wasn’t more. Gushue credited the strong play of lead Geoff Walker and second E.J. Harnden for setting up the team well throughout the match.

In the ninth end, Gushue responded with two points of his own, prompting Mouat to concede the game. With this victory, Canada now sits at the top of the standings alongside Sweden’s Niklas Edin, who also boasts a 3-0 record.
