Team Canada wins Women’s Hockey World Title in Overtime against Team USA

In the thrilling women’s hockey world championship final held in Utica, New York, Canada emerged victorious over the United States with a golden goal scored by Danielle Serdachny on an overtime power play. The match ended in a nail-biting 6-5 scoreline, with Serdachny scoring just 5 minutes and 16 seconds into the extra period. This win allowed Canada to reclaim the world title after the US had won in 2023.

Both teams exchanged goals within three minutes of each other in every period during regulation time, resulting in four occasions. This game marked the highest-scoring match between the two rivals since the US defeated Canada 7-5 in the 2015 World Championship final. Between the Olympics and world championships, 11 out of the last 13 finals between the US and Canada have been decided by just one goal, with eight of these 13 finals going into overtime.

Canada and the US have combined to win every world title since the tournament’s inception in 1990, with Canada securing 13 titles (including the first eight) and the US winning 10 titles.
