Canada Defeats USA in Historic Para Hockey World Championship

Canada Ends U.S. Gold-Medal Reign at Para Hockey Worlds

In a historic moment for Para hockey, Canada emerged victorious over the U.S. in the world championship final held in Calgary on Sunday night. The Canadians secured their first world title since 2017 with a score of 2-1, breaking the Americans’ streak of three consecutive world titles and ending their overall winning streak of 41 games dating back to October 2021.

The Canadians’ goals were scored by Dominic Cozzolino and Anton Jacobs-Webb in the first two periods of the game. Adam Kingsmill, the Canadian goalie, held strong and secured the win for his team despite a late goal by tournament MVP Declan Farmer for the U.S. The Americans made a last-minute push by pulling their goalie for an extra skater but were unable to find the equalizer even with a 25-9 advantage in shots on target.

The rivalry between Canada and the U.S. in Para hockey has been intense, with both teams meeting in seven out of eight world championship finals as well as both Paralympic finals, which were won by the U.S. This victory marks a significant moment in Para hockey’s history and showcases the strength and determination of the Canadian team, who have overcome adversity to achieve this historic achievement.
