Mykolas Alekna of California broke the world record in the discus throw at the Oklahoma Throws Series with a throw of 74.35 meters. This surpassed the previous record set by Jürgen Schult in 1986.

Alekna’s impressive performance at the series was not his first accomplishment in this event. In 2023, he set the collegiate discus record with a throw of 71.00 meters, and has dominated the collegiate discus event for years, earning most of the top 10 furthest throws in history.
