Caitlin Clark Left Out of US Women’s Basketball Team for Paris Olympics; USA Women’s 3×3 Team to Showcase Young Talent

Caitlin Clark omitted from Team USA roster for Paris Olympics

The US women’s basketball team for the Paris Olympics in the summer of 2024 will not feature Caitlin Clark, a rookie sensation in the WNBA, according to Christine Brennan of CNN. The exclusion of Clark was reportedly due to concerns about her fan reaction to limited playing time on a talented roster. USA Basketball has yet to respond to CNN’s request for comment.

The team’s roster is expected to include WNBA stars and past Olympic champions such as Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi, and Breanna Stewart, among others. Griner, who had a difficult experience in Russia last year, has vowed to only play basketball overseas for the Olympics after being detained in the country.

Prior to the start of the Paris Olympics, the US women’s team will play an exhibition game against Germany in London. During the group stage, they will face opponents including Japan, Belgium, and Germany. Meanwhile, the USA women’s 3×3 team will showcase younger talent like Cameron Brink and Hailey Van Lith alongside veterans Rhyne Howard and Cierra Burdick.

The US women’s national team has a long history of Olympic success, having won gold at seven consecutive Games since 1996. 3×3 basketball is making its second appearance at the Olympics in Paris in 2024 and saw the US claim gold in Tokyo in 2021 with young talent showcasing their skills on court.
