Butte County Secures $6 Million Grant for Youth Services Expansion; Board of Supervisors Addresses Other Important Matters

Butte County awarded $5.7M to enhance youth behavioral health services – Chico Enterprise-Record

Butte County is poised to enhance its local youth services by securing a grant agreement with the state. This agreement, set to be presented by Behavioral Health Director Scott Kennelly at an upcoming Board of Supervisors meeting, would provide $5,670,951 in funding along with a $469,211 match from the county.

The additional financial support would allow for the expansion of the Chico Stepping Stones Facility and create more capacity to serve behavioral health clients. The grant funding, if approved, will be used for purchasing a new building and making necessary renovations to accommodate 148 new clients and 43 new substance use disorder clients. The expansion of the facility will enable more individual and group treatment services, as well as enhanced support for mothers, children, and youth in need of treatment.

During the same meeting, the Board of Supervisors will address other important items. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office will present its annual Military Equipment Use Policy and discuss its inmate access policy when working with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Additionally, the board will consider a budget adjustment of $2.7 million for county facility repairs and review liens against five Butte County properties deemed public nuisances.

Meetings of the Butte County Board of Supervisors are typically held at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the chambers located at 25 County Center Drive, Suite 205 in Oroville. These meetings are open to the public and provide an opportunity to stay informed about local government decisions and initiatives.
