A fire broke out at the Butler County Health Department building in Greenville early Sunday morning, causing significant damage to the facility. The fire was reported around 3:30 a.m., and responding officers and firefighters declared it a general alarm fire. Unfortunately, the building is considered a total loss.

The state Fire Marshal’s office, local fire officials, police, and the sheriff’s department are all working together to investigate the cause of the fire. Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn stated that at this time, the fire does not appear to be intentional, but the investigation is still ongoing. Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The Alabama Department of Public Health is currently searching for a temporary location to continue providing services to the community.
