Bury College students are utilizing virtual reality systems to gain hands-on experience in tackling real emergencies. The public service course students have had the opportunity to work with a virtual reality extinguisher fire-fighting system that was generously donated to the college by FLAIM Systems, an international emergency training company.
During a recent visit to the college, FLAIM director Ted O’Brien guided the students through various scenarios involving house fires, aircraft fires, and more. This immersive experience provided the students with a realistic fire-fighting experience in a safe and sustainable environment.
Tony Greenhalgh, a public services tutor and former firefighter, expressed his gratitude towards Ted and FLAIM for providing this valuable training opportunity to the students. He emphasized that practicing with the equipment in a realistic yet safe setting will significantly enhance the students’ preparation for future roles in emergency services.
Two students, Sam Walsh and Cecilia Kayembe, shared their excitement about the training session and expressed their eagerness to tackle even more challenging scenarios in the future. Their positive feedback highlighted the effectiveness of using virtual reality systems in enhancing the student learning experience.
