Burglars Targeting Businesses in Grand Rapids’ Wealthy Street: A Closer Look

Second Break-In on Wealthy Street in 6 Days – Another Business Targeted

In recent days, Grand Rapids, Michigan has seen a string of break-ins on Wealthy Street. Two businesses have been targeted in less than a week, leaving local business owners feeling frustrated and disappointed.

On Thursday morning, Wealthy Street Bakery was the first to fall victim to the thieves. Operations Manager Ashley Havemeier reported that the break-in occurred at around 5 a.m., with the robbers attempting to gain entry through the front door. When they were unable to do so, they threw a piece of asphalt through a side window. Despite their efforts, the thieves were unable to find any cash as the registers are not left out overnight, so they left empty-handed.

Just east of Wealthy Street Bakery, Good Judys Market and Juice Bar was also targeted by thieves on Friday. A large piece of asphalt was thrown through the glass door, forcing the business to close for the rest of the day. Havemeier expressed frustration that it is unlikely that businesses in the area keep large amounts of cash on site.

The Grand Rapids Police Department is currently investigating both incidents and it is unclear if they are connected. Business owners in the area are on edge and hoping for a swift resolution to these troubling events.
