Building Bridges: DiverseMed Empowers Minority Healthcare and Creates Equal Opportunities

The Southern University Law Center and the Southern University Increasing Clinicians of Diversity Initiative are hosting an event called DiverseMed: Breaking Barriers in Healthcare on Friday, June 14. This event will be held at the Southern University Law Center Building and aims to address issues impacting the minority community in healthcare.

Marla Dickerson, vice chancellor for innovation and strategic partnerships and Initiatives for Southern University Law Center, expressed the importance of seeing clinicians who share the same cultural background advocating for the health of minority communities. The hope is that this will build trust and give hope for a healthier future.

Speakers at the event will include Dr. Uché Blackstock, author and founder of Advancing Health Equity; Dr. Pierre Johnson, board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist; Dr. Rani Whitfield, board-certified family physician; Kiara Carnes, board-certified lactation consultant and co-owner of Maternal Love, and more. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Organizers have lined up speakers who will lead discussions throughout the day, covering topics such as maternal mortality, the stigma associated with seeking medical care, and more. The goal is to provide a platform for clinicians of diversity to engage with minority community members and actively work to confront health disparities. If you are interested in attending this valuable opportunity to learn about breaking down barriers in healthcare and promoting health equity in minority communities, you can register ahead of time by clicking on the provided link.
