Buccaneers Waive Valuable Wide Receiver Deven Thompkins due to Injury Designation, Leaving Team with an Open Spot in Offseason Roster

Buccaneers Release WR Deven Thompkins due to Injury

On Thursday, the Buccaneers announced that they had waived wide receiver Deven Thompkins due to an injury designation. Thompkins was a valuable member of the team last season, playing in all 17 games and contributing a total of 25 touches for 139 yards on offense. He also served as the primary returner for both punts and kickoffs, with impressive averages of 9.4 yards on punt returns and 20.4 yards on kickoff returns in 2023.

Throughout the season, Thompkins played a total of 395 snaps (251 offensive and 144 special teams), showcasing his versatility and value to the team. As a rookie in 2022, he played in five games, accumulating 72 offensive snaps and 52 on special teams. Despite going undrafted out of Utah State, Thompkins made a positive impression during his time with the Buccaneers.

The departure of Thompkins leaves an open spot on the team’s offseason roster, and it will be interesting to see how they fill this void moving forward into the upcoming season without him.
