The prom season is in full swing, and high school students are going above and beyond to come up with creative ways to ask their crushes to the end-of-year party. One such student, Jake Portella from Haddonfield Memorial High School in New Jersey, came up with a unique idea.
Living in the same neighborhood as Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper, Portella decided to ask Harper for help in asking one of his classmates to prom. He walked over to Harper’s house, knocked on the door, and was surprised when Harper answered.
Initially, Harper asked Portella for his email address so they could plan things out, but then he decided to handle the request on the spot. The two of them walked over to the classmate’s house together, where she answered the door and said yes to Portella’s prom proposal. The girl, named Giulia, was stunned and ecstatic before hugging both Portella and Harper.
A video of the prom proposal quickly went viral online after being posted by Portella. Although he was surprised by the attention it received, he thought it would just be a cool moment among friends and people in town. Haddonfield High’s prom is scheduled for Friday, June 14th but unfortunately that night the Phillies will be playing in Baltimore. Maybe if luck is on their side, we could see some special guests like the Phillie Phanatic make an appearance at the dance instead?
