Browns Quarterback Deshaun Watson Returning to Practice and Could Join Team’s Receivers in OTAs as Early as Summer

Deshaun Watson has positive outlook on rehab progress

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has recently thrown a football for the first time since sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury. General Manager Andrew Berry stated that Watson is on track to return for the start of the season, which was confirmed by the quarterback himself during a podcast interview with quarterbacks coach Quincy Avery.

Despite not disclosing specific details about his rehab routine, Coach Kevin Stefanski suggested that Watson may be advanced enough to practice with the team’s receivers during organized team activities. Watson’s injury initially involved a micro tear in his right rotator cuff and was exacerbated by a fracture sustained during a game against the Ravens. He underwent surgery to address the fracture in November, and his recovery has been ongoing.

Since joining the Browns, Watson has faced significant setbacks due to injury, limiting his playing time to just 12 out of 34 games. During his absence last season, Joe Flacco stepped in as quarterback and led the team to the playoffs. With Flacco moving on to the Colts, the Browns signed Jameis Winston as Watson’s backup, emphasizing the team’s commitment to ensuring depth and stability at the quarterback position.
