Broward science teacher slams student’s head into table after being angered by wisecrack, according to police

In Broward County, a science teacher was arrested for physically abusing a student during school hours. Christopher Cagle, 64, a teacher at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, is now facing child abuse charges. The incident occurred after the student joked about him and called him “Cagle Bagel,” which he didn’t find amusing.

According to the arrest report, Cagle became upset by the joke and directed the teenager towards him. When the student tried to shake his hand, Cagle twisted it behind his back. The student felt dizzy and was dragged into the classroom by Cagle. Surveillance footage showed red scratch marks on the student’s back and neck. The school resource officer noted these injuries and led to charges being pressed by the parents.

Broward County Public Schools stated that they prioritize student safety and are cooperating with law enforcement regarding this matter. As a result of this incident, Cagle has been reassigned away from the school pending an investigation. In another related incident, five employees at Monarch High School were reassigned for allegedly breaking a state law regarding trans females playing on the girl’s volleyball team, resulting in the reassignment of five employees including the principal.
