Broncos’ Hidden Gem: The Rise and Fall of Cornerback Tremon Smith

Broncos Roster Spotlight: No. 1 Cornerback Tremon Smith

The Denver Broncos are continuing their 90-man offseason roster series with a focus on seventh-year cornerback Tremon Smith, who wears No. 1.

Before joining the Broncos, Smith was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL draft. He spent two seasons with the Chiefs before moving on to the Green Bay Packers in 2019. Smith then spent time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2020 before landing with the Houston Texans in 2021 and 2022.

Smith signed a two-year deal with the Broncos in March 2023 with the hope of contributing as a special teams player. During his first season with Denver, he only played one snap on defense but saw action on special teams for 391 snaps.

However, his chances of making the 53-man roster are uncertain as the team has a crowded cornerback depth chart. The Broncos could save money by releasing him, and his role as a kick return specialist may be overshadowed by Marvin Mims. If Smith doesn’t impress during training camp, his time in Denver might be short-lived. This story was originally published on Broncos Wire.
