Brockton Firefighters Battle Major Fire, Cause Unclear

Multiple businesses in Brockton MA damaged in overnight fire – NBC Boston

Firefighters in Brockton, Massachusetts battled a large fire that spread to multiple businesses before being mostly extinguished by Thursday morning. The building where the fire originated housed several businesses before moving to a nearby home, causing minor damage to the siding. The majority of the damage occurred in a building on Main Street near East Nilsson Street. Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

Brockton Fire Chief Brian Nardelli stated that the fire department received a call about the fire around 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy smoke emanating from the structure’s ceiling. Fortunately, no one needed rescuing as two individuals in the basement were able to escape on their own. Chief Nardelli described the fire as challenging due to the late hour and above-normal temperatures at the time. Officials believe the two individuals may have been residing in the basement, though details are still unclear.

The building housed a soul food restaurant, convenience store, and beauty salon, none of which were open when the fire broke out. Despite seeing a woman being taken away in an ambulance, there were no significant injuries reported. The fire chief noted that heavy fire was present throughout the ceiling space, making it a difficult situation for firefighters to control.
