British Wheelchair Tennis Champions Set Sights on French Open Men’s Doubles Gold

British wheelchair tennis players Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid have secured their spot in the French Open men’s wheelchair doubles final for the fifth consecutive time. The top seeds had to come from behind to win their semi-final match against Gustavo Fernandez from Argentina and Stephane Houdet from France, with a score of 3-6 6-2 10-8.

Hewett, 26, and Reid, 32, will face off against Japanese second seeds Takuya Miki and Tokito Oda in the final, a team they have only lost to once in their previous five Paris finals. The British duo has a successful history together, having won a total of 19 Grand Slam doubles titles.

In the quad wheelchair doubles final, fellow Briton Andy Lapthorne, partnering with Guy Sasson from Israel, will be looking to secure a victory. The second seeds managed to defeat the team of Robert Shaw from Canada and David Wagner from the United States with a score of 6-2 3-6 10-2 in the semi-finals.

This is Lapthorne’s second consecutive appearance in the French Open quad wheelchair doubles final, having clinched the title in 2023 with his partner Donald Ramphadi from South Africa. Hewett and Reid have their eyes set on Paralympic gold in September at Roland Garros, aiming to add to their impressive list of achievements as a doubles team.
