British Star Josh Kerr Breaks National Record, Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai Sets New Mark at Prefontaine Classic

Kerr surprises Ingebrigtsen with multiple world-leading performances.

Josh Kerr created history at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene by setting a new British record in the Bowerman Mile. His time of 3:45.34 was not only a national record but also a world lead, marking his first ever Diamond League win. The British star stunned favourite Jakob Ingebrigtsen to secure the victory, repeating his success over the Norwegian rival from two years ago at the World Athletics championships.

Peruth Chemutai of Uganda set a national record in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, adding to the list of standout performances at the event. Emily Grove surprised in the women’s pole vault with a winning height of 4.63m, while Costa Rica’s Gerald Drummond clinched his first ever Diamond League win in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 48.56.

The fifth Wanda Diamond League meeting of the season in Eugene saw other impressive performances as well, including Keely Hodgkinson’s dominant 1:55.78 in the women’s 800m and Tsigie Gebreselama’s 14:18.76 in the women’s 5000m. Joe Kovacs displayed strength in the shot put with a winning 23.13m effort, while Grant Holloway claimed his first win of the season with a solid 13.03 in the men’s 110m hurdles.
