British Sprinter Louie Hinchliffe Makes History with US Collegiate Victory in 100m

Briton Hinchliffe claims victory in 100m US college championship with a lightning-fast time of 9.95 seconds

In 2024, British sprinter Louie Hinchliffe made history by becoming the first European to win the men’s 100m at the NCAA Championships. The 21-year-old from Sheffield ran an impressive 9.95 seconds in Eugene, Oregon, to secure the US collegiate title and make him the sixth quickest British sprinter.

Hinchliffe is currently representing the University of Houston, where he is coached by legendary nine-time Olympic champion Carl Lewis. He previously won the English national title in 2022 before spending the 2023 season at Washington State. Despite starting the year with a personal best of 10.17, Hinchliffe has steadily improved his performance throughout 2024, reducing his time by one-third of a second from his previous best.

Looking ahead, Hinchliffe is scheduled to compete at the UK Championships in Manchester later this month, which serve as the British trials for the upcoming Paris Olympics. He is determined to continue improving and excel in his sport.
