Bringing the Heat: The IIHF Women’s World Championship Returns to Utica, New York for First Time Since 2017

Schedule for the 2024 IIHF Women’s Ice Hockey World Championship

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s World Championship is making its return to the U.S. for the first time since 2017. The tournament will be held in Utica, New York, from April 3-14, following previous American hosts such as Lake Placid (1994), Minneapolis (2001), Burlington, Vermont (2012), and Plymouth, Michigan (2017).

The top five teams from Group A, including the U.S., Canada, Czechia, Switzerland, and Finland, will advance to the quarterfinals. Additionally, the top three out of five teams from Group B will also make it through to the next round.

The defending champions of this year’s tournament are the United States team. They defeated Canada 6-3 last year in Brampton, Ontario. Hilary Knight played a crucial role in their victory as she scored a hat trick in the gold-medal game and holds career records at worlds for points (101) and goals (61).

The schedule for the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship includes round-robin games taking place throughout April. The quarterfinals will be held on April 11th followed by the placement game on April 13th. On April 14th there will be semifinals, bronze game and final matches taking place.
