The Kansas City Chiefs have welcomed back receiver Mecole Hardman after he agreed to a one-year contract with the team, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Hardman struggled with the New York Jets last season, catching just one pass for 6 yards in five games before being traded back to the Chiefs.
In his six regular-season games back with the Chiefs, Hardman recorded 14 receptions for 118 yards. He also contributed seven catches for 62 yards in the postseason, including a key touchdown reception in Super Bowl LVIII that helped secure Kansas City’s second consecutive championship.
Drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Hardman has accumulated 165 receptions for 2,206 yards and 16 touchdowns in 63 games for the Chiefs. With uncertainty surrounding Rashee Rice’s status, Hardman could play a pivotal role in the team’s receiving corps.
In addition to his receiving abilities, Hardman could also contribute as a returner. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2019 for his kick return skills and has shown the ability to make big plays on special teams.
Hardman’s familiarity with head coach Andy Reid’s offense, along with his reliability as a pass-catcher, makes him a valuable asset for the Chiefs as they head into the upcoming season.
