Rewritten article:

Mental health development and needs for children, teenagers, and young adults are the focus of this year’s Breaking the Stigma: A Dakota News Now Special Report. We were able to sit down with Rising Hope Counseling founder Jill Janecke to discuss the importance of brain development and treatment options for those in need.

Dr. Wallace Jackmon, an Avera Behavioral Health psychologist, also joined the program to provide insight on the impact of children being exposed to cell phones and social media at a younger age and how it can affect their social skill development. Additionally, a brave Sioux Falls woman shared her personal mental health journey, which began with a conversation with her primary care provider at Sanford Health.

We also explored partnerships between Southeastern Behavioral Health and the Sioux Falls Police Department that aim to improve the response to mental health-related calls for service. The cabinet secretary for the South Dakota Department of Social Services discussed a collaboration with Lawrence & Schiller to increase awareness for mental health.

Volunteers of America Dakotas offer mental health services and resources for families in the area. If anyone is facing a mental health emergency, it is crucial to contact authorities or call 9-8-8. Resources can also be accessed through the Helpline Center. Copyright 2024 Dakota News Now. All rights reserved
