Breaking the Mold: Kevin Costner Casts Son Hayes in ‘Horizon: An American Saga,’ Emphasizing Companionship over Criticism

Kevin Costner’s “Selfish” Decision to Cast His Son in ‘Horizon’

In his upcoming Western film “Horizon: An American Saga,” actor Kevin Costner has cast his son Hayes in a significant role. Despite potential criticism of nepotism in Hollywood, Costner explained that he wanted to have his son on set for companionship rather than taking opportunities away from other actors.

Costner described Hayes as a beautiful and quiet boy who had not been forced into the business. The young actor will make his screen debut as Nathaniel Kittredge, the teenage son of Sienna Miller’s character Frances. Costner named his character in the film after his son, and working together on set was a special experience for them both.

Despite some criticism, Costner praised his son’s performance in the film, calling it “really beautiful” and complimenting the complexity and nobility of his character. “Horizon: An American Saga” is set to be released on June 28 and is the first installment in Costner’s four-part franchise on America’s westward expansion post-Civil War. Chapter Two is scheduled to follow on August 16.
