Breaking the Barriers: Universal Music Group and TikTok Unite for a New Agreement to Revolutionize Music Monetization and Discovery

Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny make a comeback on TikTok following licensing deal with UMG

Universal Music Group (UMG) and TikTok have reached a new agreement that will allow users of the social network to use songs from artists such as Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny in their videos. This “multidimensional” licensing agreement between the two parties will bring back songs from UMG artists and composers to TikTok, while ensuring fair remuneration and protection against artificial intelligence.

TikTok CEO Shou Chew expressed his satisfaction with the new agreement, emphasizing the importance of music in the TikTok ecosystem. The partnership between TikTok and Universal Music Group aims to introduce new ways for artists to monetize their work, along with providing tools for analysis and sales integration to help them expand their global fan base through the vast reach of the video platform.

Lucian Grainge, president and CEO of Universal Music Group, emphasized the importance of music, human art, and the wellbeing of the creative community in this new chapter of collaboration with TikTok. Users will now have access to a wide range of UMG song catalogs, including tracks from popular artists like Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Bad Bunny, Ariana Grande, and Drake.

Both parties are now working to ensure that the songs will be made available to users on the social network in the near future. The multidimensional licensing agreement is seen as a major step forward in bringing together two powerful players in the music industry.
